Getting Started

Instrument
Please, WAIT on getting an instrument with my guidance for sizing and selection. Buying a violin is a big investment, so I highly recommend renting in the beginning. Young students will go through go through several sizes. Check out Kennedy Violins for affordable student rental options. Beginners will go through a learning process to earn their violin and bow “drivers licences,” until then, they’re for parents’ hands only!

Practice Space
Make a space in the home where you and your student will regularly practice. Stock this space with a music stand and mirror! Beginners will need a keyboard as well. It’s helpful to have a cork board or white board where they can decorate and post each week’s practice log.

Paper Supplies
You will need a 3-ring binder that will become your lessons binder. All practice logs and paper that I give you should stay together in that binder. I recommend designating a lesson tote bag to bring supplies each week. Check out Yakima’s Ted Brown Music for books and accessories!
